There is a critical need to address current challenges facing many Australians in need of safe and secure housing. This Sustainable Built Environment National Research Centre, Australia project explores whether the Build-to-Rent (BTR) model can deliver an additional pathway to increasing much-needed supply and help boost access to social and affordable housing (SAH). The project will provide recommendations for improving the supply and diversity of BTR housing across different markets for the medium and long term. For this research, BTR is characterised as a single asset of between 200 and 500 homes, with one owner and/or manager who are committed for the long term. Developments include improved amenities, such as gardens or meeting spaces, with a focus on resident experience, driven by future rental return for investors.
